DeLonghi D895UX Deep Fryer

The DeLonghi D895UX sets itself apart from the other deep fryers on the market with a unique rotary frying basket.

Unlike the more traditional 'drop down' basket the DeLonghi uses a tilted rotating mechanism that slowly cycles the food into and out of the hot oil. The serves two purposes. First, the machine uses about half to a third less oil. If you do a lot of deep frying this can result in some big savings over time. And secondly, the constant motion of the food into and out of the oil reduces 'cold' spots and keeps foods from absorbing excess oil, thus making for a more even fry. Keep in mind that this this arrangement does require careful placement of the food items for everything to cook properly.

The basket inside is removable and raises and lowers in and out of the hot oil with an exterior handle. If you're not mechanically inclined you may find it tricky to get the basket to lock securely into the drive spindle. We recommend a few practice runs first to make sure everything runs smoothly.

There is a drain hose which flips out to allow you to remove and filter the oil for later use (there is a plastic container included for this purpose). The rubber drain hose is fragile and is the one weak point in the design. DeLonghi DO NOT provide replacement parts should it break. In such cases your only option is to get a replacement machine.

For safety, the lid has a view window and the basket lowers into the oil after the lid is latched. The lid also removes for easy cleaning.

The temp control and automatic off control and simple to use. You can set the desired temperature and a LED indicates when it is ready. There is also a small timer that can be set in one minute intervals and will beep to let you know the time has elapsed.

The fryer comes with two filters which do a good job of containing odors. But consider the cost of replacement filters before you buy. DeLonghi replacement filters do not last very long and generally must be ordered from the manufacturer. One pack usually includes three sets of filters. The 6-piece set includes 3 carbon filters and 3 oil vapor filters. Depending on how often you use your DeLonghi deep fryer, the cost of replacement filters could easily exceed the cost of the fryer in one year!
