DeLonghi D677UX Deep Fat Fryer The DeLonghi D677UX Deep Fat Fryer is a simple, easy to operate fryer with many safety features built in. If you have young children or elderly parents in the house this fryer could be a good choice. With a capacity of just over 2lbs the D677UX sits somewhere between a mini deep fat fryer and a full size unit. The oil chamber holds 2 liters which is enough to provide an even frying temperature yet can still be economical for small household use. The D677UX has been designed with a number of safety features built in. To start with the walls are cool-touch, so you won't burn yourself if you accidentally touch them when the fryer is in use. Also the basket can be raised and lowered with the lid closed. This can be a great safety feature, especially if you are not very experienced in deep frying. A small viewing window in the lid allows you to check on the food's progress without having to pop the lid open. The lid also has a built in carbon odor filter. Like many fryers designed for home use, the power cord has a magnetic plug that is designed to detach from the fryer in the event of any sudden movements. Unfortunately, many owners report that it falls off in the middle of frying and must be re-attached, sometimes repeatedly so. Oil temperature is set using the slider control at the base of the fryer. A small signal light goes off when the oil has reach the correct temperature. At that point just lower the basket with the food items into the fry chamber. The oil temperature can be set from about 300F to 370F. Changing the cooking oil on a deep fat fryer is probably the biggest hassle for most owners. DeLonghi have attempted to solve this by equipping the D677UX with a drain pipe located behind a small access panel on the front of the fryer. To change the oil you just position a suitable container directly below the drain pipe and remove the plug to drain. For the most part it works pretty well although you may need to tip the fryer forward slightly to collect all the remaining oil.
